MPC replaced failed synthetic teak on P&O Cruises’ MV Ventura with Herculan's Eco Teak, resolving blistering, cracks and water-ingress corrosion across four deck areas to deliver a durable, low-maintenance, IMO-compliant finish.
Working at sea under shifting weather and post-lockdown protocols, we removed the defective system, treated corrosion, primed, self-levelled and applied a new Eco Teak wear layer, cutting and back-filling caulk lines. Despite heat, downpours and wind-induced listing, the team delivered a precise, safe installation on schedule and budget.
The MV Ventura is a grand-class cruise ship within the P&O Cruises fleet which entered service in 2008. Blistered and cracked synthetic teak allowed water ingress in external deck areas, causing corrosion across four exterior deck zones. Our brief was deliver a robust, passenger-ready finish while the ship remained in service.
We removed the failed synthetic teak system; treated the corrosion; primes and self-levelled to correct falls; applied Herculan Eco Teak wear layer; cut and back-filled caulk lines. The works were executed at sea amid heat, rain, high winds and COVID-era protocols.
Around 500 m² of exterior decks were reinstated to a high standard - on time and on budget. Subsequent inspections confirmed the Herculan Eco Teak system’s longevity and appearance: durable, low-maintenance and performing as new.
